Are you frustrated because you enjoy having open and authentic discussions about race, but there's no one in your life you can talk to about it?
Do people tell you that you're "just too sensitive" anytime you bring up the topic of race?
Have you ever wished you could get past the simple-minded cultural tourism (sushi night! ethnic potluck!) that passes as diversity programming at most workplaces and instead, have a real conversation about how race impacts the actual lives of everyday people?
You're not alone.
In fact, a quarter million people just like you flock to our blog, Racialicious, every month for exactly these reasons. Just have a look at what they're saying:
"Racialicious makes me feel sane." — Beth
"I love this site, it is so good to have a place to come to discuss these issues since I don't always have the opportunity to discuss these things in the real world." – Lisa J
"I appreciate coming here and knowing I'm in a safe space (not safe as in handle me with kid gloves, safe as in respectful while still being challenging, presenting nuanced and insightful arguments that make my brain and my heart work)." — Jessica
"This blog is a refuge for me." —Gigi
There's no doubt that we've built Racialicious into a lively, thriving community.
Imagine what it would be like if you could …
That's why I decided to create a program called…
It's unlike anything you've ever experienced.
Made me feel less alone
"The Racialicious Experience made me feel less alone, as it gave me the opportunity to connect with other people across the country in regards to racial dynamics and racism. The program provided us with a great opportunity to flush out ideas, ask questions and share experiences in a safe and facilitated environment.
"I'm now thinking of expanding on what I experienced by starting a discussion group locally with activists and community members who are interested in exploring and discussing racial dynamics and racism."
Libby Lok in Santa Barbara, CA
I'd love to accept every person who applies for this experience. But, I simply cannot accommodate everyone and still provide the select, hands-on experience you need.
So, to honor my commitment to you, I've decided to limit enrollment to just 15 people.
Also, because it's so important to this experience that I create the kind of safe, intimate space that will most conducive to authentic conversation, I have created an application process for this program.
To receive an application, all you have to do is pay a nominal $25 application fee by 5 pm Eastern on Friday, October 9th.
Why am I charging an application fee? Because I only want applications from people who are serious about participating in this program.
There's no risk for you whatsoever. Here's why:
If your application is accepted, your $25 application fee will be credited towards your tuition.
If your application is not accepted for any reason, you will receive a full refund.
Such in-depth and honest discussions
"Carmen was a particularly skilled facilitator. As someone who frequently facilitates groups of teens and adults, I have a keen appreciation for someone who is able to maintain constructive dialogue in an environment as challenging as a phone conference. The set-up, questions, and topics made the space feel safe enough for participants to speak honestly about their opinions and experiences.
"I would recommend this program to anyone who was interested in it because a teleconference like this one allows you to connect with people you might never normally meet. Having the opportunity to hear from a wide variety of people over a 6-week period was invaluable. Normally, those types of interactions are limited to something like a conference, and they almost never involve such in-depth and honest discussions."
Ravi Ramaswamy in Ypsilanti, MI
The program starts on Sunday, October 18th and runs for 6 consecutive Sundays at 1:30 pm Eastern.
The tuition for this program will be $297. If you prefer, you can even split the tuition in two easy monthly installments.
Made it a little bit easier for me to talk about race
"I loved the readings, and the workshop-y aspect of it; that we all read something during the week and then came together to talk about it. Participating in the program has made it a little bit easier for me to talk about race...but I still have a ways to go. It's like a skill that needs honing. I think The Racialicious Experience is really good for people who want to talk about race and explore their own views about race but do not have a forum to do that.
